How to Understand the Domain Name System
By Clare Lawrence 13th August 2004
Ever wonder why DNS systems came into existence? Efficiency. Every computer has a distinct IP address, and the Internet needed an elite method for obtaining these addresses and for managing the system as a whole. Enter ICANN.
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Number manages the DNS root of the Internet domain namespace. ICANN's role is to manage the assignment of identifiers, ensuring that all users have unique names.
The DNS system is run by a series of servers called DNS servers. ICANN manages the root DNS domains, under which are the top-level domains.
It also manages:
Organizational domains
Geographical domains
Reverse domains
Beneath the top-level domains are other naming authorities such as Nominet, the UK's naming authority.
How does a DNS Query work?
The process occurs in two parts. Firstly, a name query begins at a client computer and is passed to DNS client service for resolution. When the query cannot be resolved locally, DNS servers are queried.
For example, when a web browser calls the fully qualified domain name www.discountdomainsuk.com, the request is passed on to the DNS client service to resolve the name by using locally cached information. If the query is held in the cache, then the process is complete.
If, however, the query cannot be answered locally, the DNS client service uses a server list (ordered in sequence) to query external DNS servers. When a DNS server receives a query, it first checks to see if it is authoritive for that domain name. If it is authoritive, it resolves the name, and the process is complete.
If the DNS server is unable to resolve the query, it in turns queries other DNS servers, using a process known as recursion. DNS servers make use of root hints to assist in locating DNS servers, which are able to provide the required result. In this way, DNS queries are minimised and the Internet is able to operate quickly and effectively.
A typical query may run as follows:
Client contacts Nameserver A looking for www.discountdomainsuk.com
Nameserver A checks its cache, but can't answer, so it queries a server authoritive for the Internet root.
The root server responds with a referral to a server authoritive for the .com domains.
NameserverA queries the the .com server and gets referred to the server authoritive for www.discountdomainsuk.com
Nameserver A queries this server and gets the IP address for www.discountdomainsuk.com.
Nameserver A replies to the client with the IP address.
Queries can return answers that are authoritive, positive, negative or referral in nature. In the event of a negative answer, another DNS server is queried.

Tell me anything about jardini arowana except tank size, 10 pts.?
Haven't bought one yet and i am buying a baby jardini. Ones in Mott street were dyed and cost $65, i was told that dyed ones don't live long is that true? And i just found that the petstore near my house have it too selling for $50+no tax, not in stock but they go check tomorrow, and they always give me discount when i pay. Please tell me about it, anything, behavior, tank mates, i am so excited, just don't tell me about tank size, i researched a lot about it. will i be able to tame jardini or it will bite me? b/c i read some threads that they were able to tame their silver arowana from head to tail.Legend, thats why i am buying a non-dyed fish, and its cheaper. I just want to buy how any years it will be shortened.I know my tank is small thats why i didn't mention about my tank size, i really want it for my 20 year old birthday by Oct 23, and i will move it into a bigger tank maybe in a year or longer when i move into a bigger apartment.3. Its actually 20 gallons not 29 gallons, i divided about 10 gallons for the since flowerhorn, my convict might be fish food for jardini.4. Might trade flowerhorn for arowana food, so my jardini can have a bigger swimming space, they keep 10 jardini in a 10 gallons tank anyway =(5. I want jardini instead of black/silver because they are more aggressive, they grow smaller, and less likely to jump than silvers, they can stun their growth at 20, i don't like any longer =) Just not crooked back.6. I can't wait to feed it live shrimps everyday. Until it grows to 12, sudden death to all other fish and game over, love that quote. I can't wait to show my cousins and grandparents lol. I also buying it because my constallation is Dragon.7. Jon, i will upload pictures right after i get the fish to prove you how happy it is in my home aquarium rather than being eaten by dantoids in a 10 gallons tank.Christopher, i joined monster fish keep, it becomes aggressive until it reaches 12 inches right? I heard its not aggressive during its juvenile stage?9. Nothing can stop me from buying that Jardini even my mom convincing me that my tank is overstocked is useless, unless law prohibites, then i would buy a silver arowana that grows even bigger lolz.10. Comparing jardini size to my tank size, its like locking me in in a big bed, i would love to stay on the bed 24 hrs if someone feed me food, provide me a computer, and some sexy girls to sex with haha.11. Its just that i got bored keeping that same fish under 5 inches, i wanna try something new. I change 100% water every 5 days for one fish, i am really tired.I don't think i will ever get a 90 or 125 gallons tank, i am planning to get a 55 or 75 gallons due to space.13. I don't believe a fish that i keep will ever grow to 23 ever within 2 years, after few years, i don't think i will still be keeping fishes.Jeffrey, why don't you just say you think I lied to you? It's pretty much the same thing how I look at it. You want information about dyed fish living shortend lives? Look up or google about dyed glass tetra's and Parrot's. That should tell you what you need to know since what I tell you isn't good enough. You seriously, as someone I've answered a lot on here, have no business buying this fish. I do not really care what you've researched, I've worked with Arowana probably more years then anyone else in this forum, and you CANNOT put that in an already over crowded 29 gallon tank. You tell people don't talk about tank size, but in your case, tank size is EVERYTHING.Jardini are much more aggressive then typical South American Arowana. You can expect issues with your big ass Flowerhorn you already have in there, and a Jardini entering the tank. There isn't even a question of IF there will be fights, it's simply a matter of how soon. The Jardini, as aggressive as they can get, is at a huge disadvantage being the new fish in the tank, will probably try to hide, if you don't have a full cover on the tank, expect to find the Jardini on the floor at some point in time, and if those two things don't kill him inside of 3 days, the stress of being hounded by that Flowerhorn will. I'll bet 1,000,000 bucks on that.If you can't get about a 210 or higher tank, just leave that jardini alone. You don't have the proper tank type to care for it, and you have already super aggressive fish in there. You're going to kill your new fish. Hell if you want to just throw away 50.00 like that, I'll give you my paypal account, just give it to me instead. It seems really pointless to buy this fish when you can't properly care for it, and a 95% chance it'll die inside of a week. There is 0 point to going into things about a Jardini that you'd need to know until you address your tank size issues first. Just so everyone who follows this question will know, he has a 29 gallon tank, already has a Flowerhorn in there on top of it.This is like talking to a rock or wall. You just don't get it do you? YOU CAN'T KEEP A FISH OF THAT TYPE IN A TANK LIKE THAT PERIOD. How about for your birthday instead, I divide your closet in quarters, and we leave you in there for as long as it takes to die. Don't worry, we'll come by, slip you some food now and then, and leave just enough space to get some air. Maybe once a week we'll come by and clean out the area from your waste output, maybe not who knows. I mean it's irresponsible enough to put in there, why not just stay irresponsible and forget to clean out the place too? What's the difference? You won't make any longer then that Jardini is going to make it in the tank you have. You NEED to address your tank size long before you get the fish, there is no getting around that. Someone prove me wrong here. What's a dantiod? Never heard of that fish? Some new concoction? Every person on here is trying to tell you something. If you want to be non-intelligent and do this, go ahead but I'm just straight out done with you if like that. Your Flowerhorn will kill the new commer. Ok so you say you'll take it out. Fine, that keeps that aggressor out. Then take out the Convict as well. Give it it's own tank, in a 29 gallon tank, ok you've got about 4-6 months max, and then when it starts to grow, it's either going to jump out of the tank on you at some point, because fish do that when they are in conditions not suitable for them, or it's going to bust the glass on that tank, pick which one. You cannot long term this fish in a tank that size no matter who tells you what. This is the last stop on the train of reason, it's up to you to heed.

Red tail catfish, silver arowana, and blood parrots in brackish water?
Can red tail catfish, silver arowana, and blood parrots live in brackish water because i just bout a stonefish and wanted to add it to the tank. Right now the stonefish is in this small temporary tank. I want to make the tank lightly brackish just enough for the stonefish to survive. Please dont answer if your not sure. That's a big NO. The Catfish probably wouldn't last a full day, but the Arowana and Parrots could make it maybe a week, at great expense to their kidneys. If you want them as long-term fish (wich they are, and all should top 7 years of age, with all but the Parrot topping 15), give them the freshwater that they need.

Expensive Exotic Pets and Why Invest in Them
When things need to be taken to the extreme, people seem to be really good at it. They do all sorts of crazy things, including keeping extremely expensive exotic pets. While some think that the animals should be free and living in their natural habitat, others are willing to pay several thousands of dollars just to own one of these animals.
DeBrazza's Monkey
This animal has been named after a French explorer. It is a breed that is quite wide spread in Central Africa and it is known by the locals as the swamp monkey. This is because they have a habit of hiding in wet and marshy areas. Another thing that they are famous for is that they are very communicative and in case they feel like they are in danger they make loud and booming noises.

Although they seem to be brave, they are quite shy and the interesting thing about them is that they can express a wide range of different emotions. You could get one of these animals for $7,000.
Macaw
The Macaw, and especially the Hyacinth Macaw, is known to be the largest flying parrot in the world. In case the wings are stretched, the animal could measure 1 meter in length. Also they are easily recognized by their bright blue color. They live in the forests of South America, but the number of birds living freely has highly affected by the fact that more and more people would like to keep them as exotic pets.
Another thing that you should know about these birds is that their beaks are so strong that they can crack coconuts open with them. Such a bird would cost you $12,000.
Python
This kind of snake is known for being the largest snake species in India. The body of the snake could grow to have 4 meters in length and over 120 pounds in weight. This is more than enough to crush a body. A while ago they have been considered endangered, especially because there are more and more people who would like to keep them as pets. Nonetheless you can find them in the wild as well in southern and southeastern Asia. Such a snake would cost you $15,000.
Chimpanzee
These animals are known to be the closest living relatives of man and they are native in West and Central Africa. They have only one pair of chromosomes less than us and they also have thumbs, not to mention that the different groups have different social displays. Their society has a rank-based and sophisticated structure of interaction with each other. The interesting thing about them is that they are able to laugh and it is debated whether they can or cannot understand language. The price of such an animal is of $65,000.
There are also some other exotic pets that people like to keep, such as white tigers, platinum arowana, stag beetle, blue mutation yellow naped Amazon, palm cockatoo, mona guenon, toucan, savannah cat, squirrel monkey, snow macaque and others.
The taste for exotic pets is understandable and the pet owners of the world have the right to own such a pet legally. However with such a pet comes a different type of responsibility and getting a turtle is not the same with getting a tiger…in spite of both being a part of the exotic pet world.
